Lamb

The rich tradition of Icelandic lamb farming dates back an astonishing 1,100 years, tracing its roots to the arrival of the Vikings in the 9th century. These seafaring explorers introduced a distinctive breed of sheep to Iceland's fertile pastures. The Arctic summer, characterized by rapid plant growth and the emergence of micro-herbs, provides an ideal natural feeding ground for the lambs.

The Icelandic Lamb Marketing Board is deeply committed to preserving this centuries-old legacy of nurturing family-owned farms. Icelandic Lamb has steadfastly maintained its dedication to raising healthy lambs, and Icelandic sheep stand as "one of the purest and most protected species in the world." A meticulously maintained breeding database ensures the traceability of each lamb and sheep, preventing any form of cross-breeding.

Icelandic lambs enjoy the freedom to graze openly in the undulating valleys and mountain pastures of our pristine, untainted, and nutrient-rich landscape. This translates to a life of free-range living, completely devoid of growth-promoting antibiotics, growth hormones, and genetically modified organisms (GMOs). They are simply nurtured on the natural goodness of the Icelandic environment.

Born in the spring, these sheep roam freely until autumn, with our farmers vigilantly overseeing them throughout the year, allowing them to live out their natural life cycle.
